The most obvious way in which people can lose weight is by exercising more and eating less (particularly less calories). There are many diets that suggest types of food to eat or not eat in attempts to achieve this goal.

One of the simplest diets available to people is the ‘raw food diet’. As the name suggests the aim of this diet is to eat 75 % uncooked food, as the cooking process destroys enzymes that help us with our digestion. This is very straightforward and logical, but like many diets does not sound very enjoyable.

A very well known diet is the Atkins Diet. Dr. Atkins explains in his book, New Diet Revolution, how having a low carbohydrate diet will produce a metabolic effect in which the body burns more calories, than in other diets, and some unused calories are  expelled.

In addition to diets there are many other good tips that dieters can follow. First, when eating out choose the smallest portion possible. When we choose large meals we tend to eat past the point of hunger. Second, if you drink water before a meal you will partially fill your stomach thereby reducing your hunger levels. It is also the case that when we feel hungry sometimes our body is telling us that we are dehydrated and need to drink more water. Third, when going to the cinema try not to buy popcorn or other snack foods. The same applies when watching television at home. Finally, and importantly, set realistic goals. Too often we set our goals to high and become discouraged when we don’t meet those expectations.

One of the main problems with diets is that we are restricted in the foods we can eat. Many diets force us to eat boring foods such as tofu. We may be required to drink carrot or tomato juice. In addition to this we have to give up our favourite snack foods, alcohol, and chips. If only there were an easier way. There is an alternative. Many weight loss pills promise the results we want without any effort or sacrifice of our favourite foods. However, many of these pills do not live up to their claims.
